Sir John Barnett has recently accepted an assignment at L’Oréal Paris. Barnett was working as an assistant to Charlotte Tilbury when he first came on the national scene in 2011 after being introduced to Beyoncé. He was soon creating iconic looks for the music diva while working with top models such as Joan Smalls, Chrissy Teigen and Karlie Kloss.
His new role will entail becoming the company’s Celebrity Makeup Artist working in product development. He will have the opportunity to be part of new product formulations as well as working on customer relations through social media. This will include working on campaigns, ads and commercials for the popular makeup brand.
Barnett says that he became a makeup artist quite accidentally. He began as an artist working with canvases but switched over to faces when another makeup artist canceled at a catalogue shoot he happened to be attending. From there Barnett met Charlotte Tilbury and Pat McGrath and became an assistant, working with top models.
Soon he was traveling all over the world with Beyoncé who is also a brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris. He says he’s come to love the brand, especially the lip color line which he says does not come off during the many costume changes Beyoncé undergoes during her performances.
His standard makeup kit includes L’Oréal Voluminous Original Mascara and La Palette Nude eye shadows. Barnett feels that emotional connections begin in the eyes and that’s where his passion lies.
Barnett is excited to be part of the new social media approach that L’Oréal Paris is launching, saying that he wants to bring woman from all over into the beauty conversation.
He also says he will be “getting his hands dirty” as part of new product creation. We’re putting a fun new spin on things,” he added.
